The journey to Japan is an arduous one. 17 hours on an international flight, the bullet train to Ojiya and then past the Shinano River into central Ojiya and along to Yamakoshi. Dainichi, Marusei, Marusaka, Gontaro and Yamaju - these must all be reconnoitered in search of yearlings, two year olds and the hope of finding a grand champion. The expedition takes courage, patience, endless reserves and more than a few Yen.

The journey to Mpumalanga is more comfortably undertaken. Two hours of smooth highway until you reach rolling hills and the majestic fall of the eastern escarpment.

Its also where some of the finest Koi are to be found: Kohaku, Sanke, Yamabuki, Long finned Yamabuki's, Kinginrin, Shiro-Utsuri, Soragoi and Hariwaki.

Stay as a guest on the farm at our charming bed and breakfast - The Cow Shed.
